Sounds like what you have there is piloncillo. It's a true brown sugar;
lots of molasses in there. The flavor is a bit strong, but it makes good,
golden-brown marzipan. You can also steep strong coffee with orange peel,
cinnamon and chunks of piloncillo to make cafe de olla. Great on a Sunday
morning.
