Parkinson and Gerard are English Herbals.  It can not be assumed just from
its inclusion in a herbal that the audience was unfamiliar with any given
plant as herbals contained both rare and common plants within the scope of
their study.  These were botanical textbooks intended to provide scientific
descriptions of the plants referenced.
