Okay, I think it might be the mid-western in me, but
showing up at a feast which I had not previously
checked out the menu and then demanding to be fed,
would most probably get me 1. Glared at by the Troll,
and 2. sent home hungry!! or at best with a salad and
oatmeal!!

Here in the Middle( I know, I hate it when somebody
else starts a sentence that way!) It is usually pretty
easy to check out a menu weeks before the feast, it is
often posted with the event flyer. It is considered
only polite to have at least notified the cook some
weeks in advance of your food allergies(along with
your prepaid check to the appropriate personel!)
before showing up to be fed.
It is not only polite, it is a good way to get what
you really want, rather than be served AS a dish at
feast!!

I know sometimes as cooks who like to see people eat,
we tend to be over-accomadating, but there is a
limit!! This just showing up with a special diet and
expecting the kitchen to just fork it over!! Well,
there would be some words and not many of them would
be in English!!!
I would probably feed them, but the salad and oatmeal
comment is not a threat, I've done it, with bagged
salad and instant oatmeal!!
Sheesh!!
