This is one of the oft lost or misunderstood pieces in dicussing
copyrights amongst scholars.  For example, Scully's translations and
interpretations are copyrighted, BUT the actual text that he has
transcribed is not protected.  The original text, unmodified is not his
to copyright.  ANY other part that he adds, translates or describes is
his material to protect.

This is how HG Cariadoc is able to include photcopies of historical
cookery texts in his collection at no large cost.  It is public domain.
His Miscellany where he and his wife translate and redact the recipes,
is his property and copyrightable.  HUGE difference to remember and
steer safely through.

Credit where credit is due, and get permission when you can.
