Yes, it's true. SCAdians have large vehicles. IMO, it is not
because they like them, but because they like to bring their
... toys ... to events.  <g>

On my trip to the MetalSmiths Symposium (Northern NJ to Sutton, MA),
my Ford Explorer was not over full .. I could still see out of the
front window, the left side window, and enough of the right side
window to see the right hand mirror ... but that's all!

I had a tub of garb, an overnight bag of clothing suitable for the
Technology Theme Park, a sleeping bag, an air mattress, my feast
box, a box (batteries, the mattress pump, a CD player, speakers
-- after all, we might have danced after the feast!), a box of
cook books, ... as well as 2 coolers (each with meat and ice),
several tubs of food, 2 waste baskets w/ food in plastic bags,
stock pots (3 gal and 4 gal), a box with my food processor and
blades, a tub with a dutch oven, butane "hot plate", butane fuel
canisters, my cooking knives, and, most important, my new
Bron mandoline ( http://www.kitchenkapers.com/2470.html ).

Upon reflection, I can see that there were 1 or 2 things <g> that
I might have needed, but didn't use (some never even made it out
of the car!):

the non SCA clothing;

of the SCA garb tub, my idea of getting into something fancier for
the feast was just that, an idea (in fact, a silly idea!); some of
the SCA garb was brought as possible loaner garb for some newcomers;

The butane hot plate and the dutch oven were brought to add help
cook breakfast items, but weren't needed; OTOH, next year that
could add cooking capacity at the forge area.

the tent ... well, it was dark and raining when I arrived, so it
was a lot more convenient to just sleep in the hall the first night
-- right next to the kitchen ... somehow, I just didn't get around
to setting up the tent on Saturday either ...

For the future ...

I am resolved to create a kitchen box in addition to my feast box:
I won't have to raid my kitchen catch-all drawer, everything will
be premarked, and I won't have to take the time to pack it before
setting out to help in the kitchen.

I am,
Vincenzo Martin Mazza,
In Service to the Dream
