Or as Grizzly Burger (Anchorage, AK) put it 30 years ago, "the out-of-town
Clown." MacDonald's didn't like Grizzly Burger's advertising, so they got
an injunction to keep Grizzly Burger from Mentioning MacDonald's in the
radio plug, after slightly more than a week or air play. Grizzly Burger
bleeped out the offending passages and continued running the ads, with most
of the people in Anchorage filling in the blanks. Big backfire for
MacDonald's.

While they have gone after a number of MacDonalds in the British Isles, I
notice Mickey D's hasn't gone after the fine dining establishment run by
Laird MacDonald at the ancestral estate in Scotland. They're very careful
not to take on someone with deep pockets, good lawyers and a definite prior
right of usage. As I recall, none of the people named MacDonald they have
gone after was financially able to take it to court. I suspect MacDonald's
would have a dicey time proving trade name infringement by someone named
MacDonald, especially outside of the U.S.

When used with raincoats, MacIntosh is usually spelled macintosh or
mackintosh. Charles Macintosh, in most of the reference's I've seen is
spelled with a small "i." The apple is a McIntosh, presumably named after
John McIntosh, an 18th Century Canadian farmer.
