Now before you get the wrong idea, and you know who you are,
I'm talking about recipes here.

Actually it was just being inspired. For those of you
who live outside America's borders, Monday was our Labor
Day Holiday in which we celebrate working by not working.
It is customarily celebrated by parties of barbecueing.
I was rather wanting to attend a barbecue and do all the
Labor Day rituals of grilling meats, drinking beer, socializing
and sunburn.

Unfortunately I spent the day alone. (Yeah, I know, Awwww!)
ANYway, I wanted to at least barbecue a steak, but I don't have a
grill for my apartment. I did have a nice t-bone so just
proceeded to cook that up. I did a simple saute' lots of garlic
in a frypan, add seasoned steak, brown then place sliced crimini
mushrooms around it and put it in the oven.

The steak and 'shrooms came out great but there was a lot of
goodness in the pan. Gravy!
Hmmmm.....no flour, no wine, no milk...not a lot of sauce makins.
Then came inspiration. I grabbed a Shiner (the beer the Gods of
Texas drink) and deglazed the pan with that. Then toasted up
some whole wheat bread and pulverized the toast to crumbs.
Added the crumbs to the liquid (ala period recipes) and added
a splash of red wine vinegar for bite. It came out great with
the steak and mushrooms.

It's fun to take some inspiration from period recipes and make
something just fun. The final product was very similar to a
basic Garlic-Pepper Sauce.
