Double checked on chicken origins, and according to Johann and the Medieval
Animals List, the original domesticated chickens were in fact from Asia, and
are a currently existing breed know as "Red Jungle Fowl"- or at least,
that's the oldest breed known.

Here's from Elaine Supkis

" History of chickens: They are jungle fowl from Java. They were
domesticated along with peacocks about four thousand years ago. They became
trade goods when Javanese and Indian traders carried them along for food and
eggs. The birds entered Persia about twothousand fivehundred years ago.

" The reached Rome via the Greek traders and the Romans took them
everywhere. So all during the Middle Ages there were many breeds already.
Some common ones today were already established by 350 AD."
