Greetings

(Hey, he's still alive and kicking! Put him back in for another ten
minutes and throw another log on the fire)

I just got back from Colonial Williamsburg and thought I'd share a fun
moment with you. (and yes, I did hit the Palace and Wythe house kitchens
and take pictures). I was at the Tenent house interpretive sight
(unlanded worker's house) while three townspeople were inside
inventorying the property of the late tentant tailor. Outside were two
Site Interpretors, third person interpretors dressed up, but who talk to
you in the present, not historical context. One had his masters in
archaeology, worked for the National Parks Service for a few years, but
was new on this job, only a month or so and fresh out of training. They
had a pocket map of the Tenent's garden showing what was planted were so
they could identify it and talk to the visitors about it. One sorry row
(hot drought this year) row of drying greens he identified as '"rapes is
what it says on my map, but I'm not really sure what they are." I told
him they were turnips and we got into a discussion on on medieval
cookery and food. And reenactment interpretation.
