No, honey's flavor is not similar to golden syrup.
Karo or any pure cane syrup will substitute.

I am fortunate to live near Atlanta, Georgia. We have
a British store (in Duluth), an african store (in
Roswell) and several farmers markets which carry a
variety of British foods. I have a Bosnian grocery and
a Russian grocery (both in Gwinnett) where I get my
Slavic goods. The Russian store has the most
incredable chocolates.
