What about Digby's Fine Cakes? Those are a nice faux hardtack, and easy to
make. Use different colored dried fruits (currants, gold raisins, etc) and
it will look like varied bugs buried in it?
There's also assorted "exotic fruits", which go over well when its warm and
muggy.
