You are probably going to have to resort to pulling things out, but you
can try soaking the fabric (completely underwater) for a day or so and
seeing if that will cause the burrs to swell up and open, or even soften.
They are, after all, seeds.

Put on a good movie and sit down next to a garbage can and go to town.
Kinda like shelling bush beans!!
