It's the Hebrew word, for the same thing as the Arabic souq or souk.

It's a marketplace, not a store, but at least in the medinas of Dar 
al-Islam, many narrow twisty passageways that all look the same... 
uh, no, that's Zork. Actually it is composed of many narrow 
passageways in Morocco not much wider than a single donkey cart and a 
pedestrian, with little "shops" lining the sides. Most of them you 
walk up to the front which is like a large open window with a counter 
- these are not generally shops you go into (although there are some 
that are big enough to enter). You engage the proprietor in 
conversation, have him hand you the goods you'd like to examine, and 
haggle over the prices of the ones you want.
