Probably. Looks like ground ginger, smells like ginger mixed with 
eucalyptus? That'd probably be the white, or greater (I think the 
white kind is the greater) galangale, also known as (I think) laos. 
The other is red/lesser/kencur. Or some other recombination of 
terms... but medieval Europeans used both kinds and called both 
galingale.
