One place that helps me frequently is the
Plants for a Future website at
http://www.ibiblio.org/pfaf/D_search.html
You can search it in a variety of ways including scientific name which
indicates that possible names for
"Cephalotaxus harringtonia"
might be Japanese plum yew
and "Podocarpus nagi"
might be Chinese bayberry or nagi.
I find it really fun to search by use as all sorts of things come up that I
had no idea could be grown for particular uses.
A wonderfully dangerous page is the bibliography page
http://www.ibiblio.org/pfaf/biblio_p.html
which lists over 200 books that they have combed through so far to create
the database. This page stops at book 254, but the database has at least
through book 269 in it.
