Sausage gravy- was Re: [Sca-cooks] gravy

i also have a revulsion for anise/fennel/licorice as well, but in fairly 
small quantities [italian sweet sausage] it isnt too bad...

but the idea of italian sausage, hot or sweet... the flavor profile 
really is way off. if you have never eaten proper sausage gravy, then 
italian wouldnt be too bad, but i know relatively few northerners have 
ever bothered to have it...in general those who have traveled in the 
south, or have southern expatriate friends are the only ones.

like A points out, you might as well make sausage gravy out of hotdogs, 
or keilbasa and suit the northern taste, but *dont* call it sausage 
gravy, make up some other name for it and spare the poor people who like 
the real mccoy the horror of getting a mouthfull of something they are 
really not expecting at all.

I probably would have gotten a mouthful and gone nuts trying to figure 
out how to spit it out or even hurl my cookies without offending 
anybody. *shudder*
