Since most of the calories in beer come from alcohol, to reduce the
calories you do actually have to reduce the alcohol as well.  I believe
Cecil Adams wrote on this in one of his books, which may or may not be
in my bathroom, and which may or may not be reproduced on

I think US beer manufacturers don't mention this on their labels
because they don't want people to realise it, but in Australia at least
it's required by law that all alcoholic beverages have the % alcohol
listed, so it's much more obvious.  In .au, "lite" beer is advertised as
a good way to drink socially without going over the legal alcohol limit
for driving, rather than as a low-calorie alternative.
