Wifey got a remote readout thermometer, one of those with a flexible cable
and a steel probe, one Christmas from my brother... I got a sword... was she
cranky... as according to her it should have been the other way round.  Be
that as it may I suggest that such a thermometer would work well in such
circumstances.
