The Emperor Claudius passed an edict stating that breaking wind at
table was acceptable in cases where not doing so could be injurious
to the health... then again, he also asked the Conscript Fathers of
the Senate if it was possible for a man to live without salt pork and
cabbage.

Clearly a man ahead of his time.
