Actually, most American beer just about qualifies as small beer - Budweiper
and the overhopped, overcarbonated watered down Pilsner wannabees that Americans
have been conditioned to drink runs 3.2%. "Light" beer is 2.8%, the reduced
calories come as a result of lower alcoholic content. "Ice" beers run around
5.5% or so.

Near beer isn't near enough to beer to really count. (it's what people who drink
beer drink when they're not drinking beer - Barley pop, barely beer) I find
it somewhat amusing that about a quarter of the cost of a 6-pack is the various
federal and state excise taxes based on the alcoholic content. Since O'Drool
and the like contain negligible amounts of alcohol, it just means that much
more profit for the brewers. It's even more amusing to see that non-alcoholic
beers cost more than regular beers. Only in America could the consumer pay more
for less, an inferior product to boot, and feel smugly superior about it . .
.
