Oh, my. I bet they called it compot. <snicker>

Ah, yes, like strained, canned vegetable soup? I used to see this on
supermarket shelves in cans, labelled "Veg-All"...

>-Bad sloppy joes
>-Goulash

Is this the macaroni goulash, or just a bad version of the Real
McCoy? And while on the subject, what is the difference between
"goulash" and "American Chop Suey"?

Raw? I am put in mind of the SNL skit about the German TV program,
subtitled for early-morning MTV use, called, "Der Lacheln
Beherrscht", or something like that, translating roughly to, "The
Smile Masters". In it, there is a point where the live studio
audience, which contains some American kids, is offered a snack. One
poor, unfortunate kid says something like, "I want some candy," only
to be shouted down by Horatio Sans, dressed in a sort of 60's Batman
Riddler outfit, as Herr Doktor, screaming, "Nein! Wir haben Kaffee
und Radishes!"

Needless to say, it is common, at our house, to respond to such
requests from certain juvenile quarters similarly. "Can I have--?"
"NO!!! Vee haff coffee and radishes!!!"
