Right, it's mash as in mashed potatoes.

What you do is boil enough potatoes to make a couple of cups of mashed
potatoes -- you can even use instant if you're really desperate, because the
flavorings do a lot to disguise the instanty taste. While they're boiling,
you cook four or five slices of bacon until crisp. Take them out of the pan
and put in about half a medium onion, diced, and cook it over medium heat
until it's tender. Then add about half a cup of milk and 2 tablespoons of
sugar, and get it hot. Drain the potatoes, mash them, and stir in the hot
milk-and-onion mixture, and add salt and pepper to taste. Just before
serving stir in a tablespoon of cider vinegar and the crumbled cooked bacon.

While this is all going on, cook four or five bratwurst. Grilled is best,
but they can be broiled or even pan-fried. Split them and top with the hot
potatoes.

If you try it with mush instead, let me know how it comes out!
