The (paraphrased) OED defines a walm as "making waves" and a "period of
boiling."  So I would suggest that "a half dozen walms" is an instruction to
bring the liquid to a boil, remove it from the heat until it stops boiling,
then return it to the heat and bring it back to a boil for a total of six
boils.

I do want to find out how a walm is related to a wallop, but that will need
to wait for this evening.
