[Sca-cooks] Getting the most use out of a particular food

I was told by a my grandmother that you have to cook the eggshells, especially if you feed them to chickens.  The birds need the calcium, but chickens will begin to peck their own eggs if the shells aren't cooked first. Don't know if it applies to wild birds, though.
