When I was Juliana's deputy for the feast we did, we chose the recipes
together, then she had me work out the timing schedules for what needed to
be done when (partly because I felt that that was my weak point) and then
we divided up the recipes on the day of and during the pre-prep. I did a
good portion of the pre-prep while she (or she and I together) did most of
the shopping. Then, in the kitchen, we shared the duties of supervising
everyone else, and I was responsible for plating stuff and getting it
ready to be served during the actual feast, while she kept cooking.
