My younger daughter was twins that turned into Siamese twins.  She was born
2 months early after 5 days in labor.  She was 6lb 1 oz at birth, but
surgery was done within 2 hours of birth as her abdomen was 52 centimeters
in circumference.  Over 750 ml of fluid plus a 4 cm mass was removed and her
after surgery weight was 4 lb 1 oz.  She was in ICU for 3 months.  She had 4
more intestinal surgeries, the 2nd was to remove her ileocolostomy, she was
put back together to see if her intestine WOULD work.

She was LEFT with 20 cm of small intestine!  At 7 months she lost 1 pound in
8 hours and had an emergency PEG implanted and hooked up to a feed pump for
almost 2 years.

Doctors told me to make funeral arrangements, had them for 3 YEARS!

She is now 10 years old (will never be overweight and can never wear a
bikini)  weights 55 lbs, is in the gifted and talented program (when she
puts her mind too it!).

Our only concern is she may never be able to have children, but that is for
tomorrow.  She is doing fine.  Tell Mum to rest, take care of herself AND
READ ANY and all information she can.  Take any and all classes hospital
gives on preemies.  They are smaller, but sometimes tougher!
