hello Eleanore!
I live and work in Seattle (a couple blocks down from Worldspice, in fact :)).

what kind of food do you want? whats your budget?

Seattleites read more books, see more movies and go out to eat ALOT. Myust be the rain ;). There's a universe of wonderful restaurants in town from the quaint and cute to the superb. Seafood and Asian cuisine are specialties, of course, but Seattle is also knowns for its own wonderful "fusian cuisine". My personal favorites include Cedars for Middle Eastern, Costas Opa for Greek, Au Bouchon for french bistro fare, Dahlia lounge for NW fusian, Cafe Flora for upscale vegetarian, Nikkos for all you can eat Sushi lunches, etc etc etc.

In addition to eating at as many different places as you can :), be sure and hit the Pike Place market (Wed is organic farmer day) with its wonderufl fresh food, flowers and crafts, not to mention Sur la Table, the ultimate toy store :). There's also several terrific cheese shops, a wine shop and a windup toy store ;).

For bookstores, check out Elliot Bay Book Company in Pioneer Square (also home to some awesome restaurants, and some great kitchen shops).

Try and ride a ferry (uber cheap if you walk on!), take a walking tour, and happily wander.

Dress warm in layers, with a waterproof outer layer if you care :). Right now its about 45 degrees, a good wind off the water and HARD rain. More typical is aobut 55 degrees and a gentle drizzle. Umbrellas are for tourists and get in your way...a good waterproof coat with a hood is more de riguer here :).

wear comfy water resistant walking shoes with good grippy soles...the streets will be wet and there will be puddles.

For crash space if you like I can forward your request to the local baronial email list? more info on the local group including contact info for the guilds is at www.baronyofmadrone.org

and what dates exactly? there very well could be a culinary guild meeting while you're here :) and it would be helpful to help find you crash space maybe?

Nov 1-2nd is a local Ithra session (our kingdoms collegium like object). Preregistration is required, but you're welcome to drop by the potluck in the evening. More info on that can be found at http://www.ithra.antir.sca.org/idisplay.php and use the pulldown menu to select "Madrone Grand Fall Ithra".

hope this info is helpful!

--Anne-Marie, among other things, Baroness of Madrone (the Seattle group), chancellor for the university of ithra and longtime Seattle resident :)
