[Sca-cooks] Sabbath Goy tending food

well, i know how it works NOW in some households.... especially the
"conservadox" and some Orthodox..... no idea how it would have worked then.
(this is by no means an authoritative comment on jewish law.. just what i
have observed)

1. a Shabbos Goy was hired before Shabbos to flip light switches on Sabboth
in some houses. this was before the advent of the timer......on Shabbos the
entire household basically ignored the guy as he came in and flipped
switches...

2. you wouldnt have a Shabbos Goy cooking for you, as food cooked on the
Shabbos (not "kept warm" or similar, which is ok) would be automatically non
kosher. this goes double for bread.

3. bread, to be kosher, and by some groups, any food, has to have *some*
part of the cooking done by a jew. this can be (and usually is) considered
to be enough if they light (or turn on) the stove. since a Jew cannot do
this on Shabbos.. the only cooking a Goy could do, and have the food be
Kosher, would be continuing to cook or adjust the range that was lighted and
started before sabbath. and that is iffy.

none of this has anything to do with the Moranos..... as they often would
cook on shabbos, and eat pork, or anything else.. in order to keep from
being killed as Judaizers.
