When I've done it in recent years (small mead and water with the 
meal, hyppocras in small quantities afterwards) I've paid the 
ingredients myself. For a small feast, that isn't horribly expensive. 
It isn't very alcoholic either; I think the one time we tested the 
small mead it came to about 1% alcohol.
