The differences is in the bigger bowl. There is now a 4 qt bowl that clicks
into the base, the "standard" 5 qt that either clicks in OR attaches to the
arms (depending on the model)..and the "new" 6 qt which attaches to the arms.
there are also a variety of "watts". I have an "old" 5 qt, "arm", 350 watt
which has some problems. I dream of the "top of the line" 6 qt "professional"
with a 525 watt motor...to be had on ebay for around $244. (smallest bid you
can get it for..on reserve).
One of kitchenaid's selling points is that the beaters fit the bowl and
actually scrape the sides as it mixes. Therefore...new bowl size...new beaters
and hooks! The accessories fit all of them. I have the whole set and have
used some of them on my friend's newer "artisan" mixer .
