Why do you make this assumption?  Coffee brewed in metal camp pots does not taste like metal. 
Coffee brewed in metal percolator urns does not taste like metal.  Coffee served in stainless
steel travel mugs does not taste like metal.  For $2.25 per serving, this could be the best
tasting coffee in the world...we just don't know yet.  I'll tell you what, though...having an
almost-instant cup of rich, smooth, hot coffee at Great Western War or Estrella, without having to
get up in the freezing morning fog to heat the water (or even get out of the tent) sounds
wonderful to me.
