valerian in small doses doesn't hurt much.  except if they 
start sharpening their claws on the furniture in wild 
abandon.

sammy drools, his eyes roll like jerry calona, he hugs the 
top of the sofa like he's afraid he's going to fall off, 
smiles, purrs, and sleeps it off.

occasionally, not unlike a couple of drunks, two will try 
to out-puff each other, but usually are too high to get 
the fight going.

YMMV

a little in their catnip goes a long way as well.
