 I read your statement that an ox could be a male neat, and said, "What?"  
Then I said, of course, neat's foot oil (made from the feet of calves, because - 
I think - the oil stays liquid and flexible at low temps, so is good for 
leather footwear.)  So, are neats always calves, or just occasionally?
