Huh?

OK, bringing my German classes to it, I can see that - but it's not the
way they said it at the restaurant. At least, not to the customers. It
was really more Old New York than German, no matter how it began. Yes,
the food was German, but they talked about Diamond Jim Brady and Lillian
Russell...

It was a pretty regular Celebration Dinner place for my family, partly
because we liked it, and partly because it was so convenient - about a
15 minute walk. Mom's college graduation, I remember, as well as
birthdays, etc.

And no, I don't remember ever having that dish (or even noticing and
commenting on it.) I really don't remember specific dishes much, but
just that everything was always good. They stuck to 14th Street through
all the bad years, then moved just as the neighborhood was turning
around... and promptly died, as history and ambiance were as much a part
of the place as the very good food. Sorely missed.
