Good idea.
Power in The Goodman of Paris translates this as:
Item, you may know the age of a hare from the number of holes that be
beneath the
tail, for so many holes, so many years.
p.225 from the chapter "How to order dinners and suppers."

I have at hand---
Brereton and Ferrier's edition of Le Menagier de Paris on page 174 item
22 (Section II iv) gives this passage as
[22. ]"Item, l'en congnoist l'aage d'un lierve au nombre des pertuiz qui
sont dessoubz la queue; car pour tant
de pertuiz tant d'ans."
This carries the note --- "dun nombre au AC."

Le Mesnagier de Paris which is Brereton and Ferrier's edition of Le
Menagier de Paris translated into
modern French by Karin Ueltschi [Librairie Generale Francaise, 1994]
provides another glimpse.
The Brereton/Ferrier text in question for item 22 (as given above) is on
page 548.
The facing text on page 549 for item 22 reads:
22. Item, on peut e'valuer l'age d'un li`evre au nombre de trous qu'il a
sous la queue : le nombre de trous
equivaut au nombre d'annees.

I also have at hand the Slatkine Reprints edition of Le Menagier de
Paris (Geneve) which in volume two
under Le Menagier, D. II, A. IV p 90
