[Sca-cooks] Watermelon

Yeah, that one caught my eye, too.  It's one of the third types, fruits,
vegetables, and gourds.  Gourds are very veggie-like, but all have seeds,
being a sure sign of reproductive qualities and technically a fruit.
They do say you can eat the seeds, but don't say what a good idea it is.
Chewing up the seeds and eating the along with the melon provides all of the
enzymes necessary to digest the melon.  You should really do this with
organic melons, but it is true of all seeded varieties.  The seedless
varieties are considered (among the raw foods crowd) to be sub-standard.
I've never tried toasted watermelon seeds, although I have discovered that I
really like delicata squash seeds even better than pumpkin for toasting.
Cooking them does negate the whole enzyme thing, however.

Erm... no, cucumbers, pumpkins and squash are fruits like watermelon.
Not the other way around.  Fruits are the ripened, seed bearing ovaries
of a plant.  Other fruits: tomatoes, eggplants, peppers...
