I've always been interested in Rice-A-Roni. The concept of mixing 
rice and various small pasta shapes is a fairly old one in places 
like the Middle East, I believe, and a pilaf made in this way, but 
with real stock instead of chemical powder stuff, is actually quite 
good. What it has to do with San Francisco, though, is beyond me, 
unless it's more of the hake/scrod phenomenon.
