Well, a bit after I got home from my first interview I got a call for
another with the Deli/Cheese manager, as you all know.

I had a delightful talk with the Dept. Manager and the Counter Manager
and we seemed to really hit it off. (On the way to the office I got into
an argument with them about why they have Parma Ham, Proscuitto,
Pancetta, ect...but no Smithfield Ham. They said they are very proud
of their international menu so I countered with, "So just because it
is American you refuse to carry arguably the best ham in the world?".
The funny thing is by the time we got to the interview they were
agreeing with me.)

Although I have no experience in a deli or restaurant type environment
they decided to hire me. The main reason is that the Dept. Manager
wants the department to become known for fun. She wants to create
the deli equivalent of the Seattle Fish Market. And my job will be to
make
the customers want to come back. So, they didn't really hire Michael,
they
wanted Gunthar.

Another nice thing is that when I filled out the application I had no
idea 
what
to put for salary. I decided to put down a basic Help Desk salary, if
they 
couldn't
meet at least that then I couldn't really work full time. She said that
was 
a bit
more than they pay people in the position they wanted me for. But,
because
I seem to be exactly what they are looking for they will pay it.

I have to go through all the drug and background checks as well as all
the
orientation stuff before I can start work but it looks like I finally
have a 
job.

I have spent the last several years being miserable in the computer
industry
feeling that was the only way I could make a living. I finally realized
that 
I'm
still poor as a churchmouse and miserable in the bargain. I may as well
do
something I may love and be poor.

So, hopefully next week, I'm going to be the chief entertainer in a
place
where I can sell fois gras, caviar, cheeses, etc....

(Oh, and I finally got my contacts today so I will get to fight this 
weekend.)
