[Sca-cooks] The power of the cookie OT, OOP

A customer came in today. This guy was over six feet, tattoos all over his
arms and a
mean look in his eye. He was talking on a cell phone and whatever was going
on the
other end was not making him happy. I took the order of the two ladies with
him and
mentioned that I need to get his order but to be very nice since he didn't
look happy.
They replied that, yeah, he's in a truly nasty mood. So the guy snapped his
phone shut
with an irritated gesture and glared at me. The first thing that came out of
my mouth was,
"You look like a guy in dire need of a free cookie!"

The guy blinked at me like I'd grown a third eye. Then a smile spread over
his face and he
heartily agreed with me. I went to the bakery and got a huge chocolate chip
cookie, put it
on a plate with a little doily and presented it to him with a flourish and
the proclamation of "Free cookie to the Mr. Grumpypants". The man just
laughed, gave his order and munched his
cookie. Every time I saw the gentleman after that in the dining room he
seemed much more
relaxed. I'm sure his problems were still there but I think he realized that
life wasn't too bad
when a complete stranger will give him a cookie just because he was having a
bad day.

And that's why I love my job.

Yers,

Gunthar
