It seems that the accepted "rule of thumb" for such things is 50 years - if 
it was published by 1650, most "SCA authorities" will accept it as "late 
period". After 1650, it's generally considered "post-period". There's not 
hard-and-fast written rule, but that seems to be how things operate in the 
Society.
