I forgot. When the girls were *very* young, we had one of those
under-cabinet knife racks that pulled down. It had very stiff springs and
was nearly impossible for a child to get into even if they could reach it.
It wasn't that convenient for me, though, and eventually the need for
under-cabinet lighting took precedence.

And yes, once they were old enough, we taught them about kitchen safety,
right along with kitchen fun. But my older daughter was accident-prone when
she was younger, so keeping things out of reach was prudent.
