Most of the power is back on here <Thorngill> as of yesterday (Sunday). Our
little mini-compound (THLady Signy, THLord Edward, Lady Muirghean, Nicole,
Lord William, Lady Jennett, Little William, and me) got phone service Sunday
AM and power mid-afternoon.

We have some limbs down, some shingles missing, and a lot of resorting of
things like books moved away from suspect parts of the roof to take care
of - and a very large pine down in the front yard. Also, food from the
fridges is pretty much a total loss, though luckily not the freezers so we
don't need another emergency cookout like the one THLord Jaspar hosted for
Sir James. Otherwise, all people, horses, sheep, dogs and cats present and
accounted for.

Where are you exactly? Has anyone heard from folks in Arenal, Osprey,
Thorngill and such?

Let's face it-we are blessed, lucky and what ever else you want to use.
I only have a lot of broken tree limbs, and I had about an inch or so of
river in my barn. The river only got half-way up the back yard, and the
creek beside the house never got more then half full.
Granted, the water was pink and frothy (it was running fast!) but it
never got anywhere near the cars.
I sat on the back porch and watched the 60-70 MPH winds bend and twist
the trees for most of the storm, limbs float by in the river and the
almost-horizontal rains. It was an awesome sight.
We were only without power for 4 and a half hours.
A neighbor lost a Bradford pear-it broke off just below ground, and
missed the cable lines. It landed in just the right place to be picked
up, too. She came out, took one look, and started laughing. They had
been talking about taking it down, anyway-the previous owners had put it
too close to the cable lines....
There are others with worse concerns-trees down on houses, still no
power, and no way of getting out. US 31 at Brookwood hospital is closed
because of mud slides, and they have evacuated portions of Birmingham
because of flooding. The Eastlake area has been evacuated because they
fear the dam on the lake is about to break.

So, besides Mother's broken foot, we came out all right.
