My first thought would be to talk about how the Moslems conquered parts of Spain (there was a program on the History Channel [I think] about this last night...had to go to bed so I couldn't see it, but it looked pretty good). They had a lasting influence not only on the part of Spain where they were, but actually on ideas about both food and medicine throughout Europe. Then, later, there was the effort to drive them out...and the Inquisition. Though it's not a lovely topic, it's one that still should be discussed, IMHO.

You might actually take your program from the standpoint of the three major religions in Medieval Spain...Christianity, Judaism and Islam. The interraction between the three groups, along with the impact each had on the other might make an interesting thing.
