Well, there are more unusual things to try in traditional Icelandic
cooking as well. For a time, there was a native Icelandeer on this
list, Nanna, whose interest was in traditional Icelandic cooking and
foods. You can find a number of her messages in these Florilegium files.

Iceland-msg (33K) 4/10/05 History and culture of Iceland.
Iceland-bib (5K) 4/21/95 Bibliography on Iceland.

fd-Iceland-msg (84K) 5/29/05 Food of medieval Iceland. Recipes.

I think there is a bit in this file as well:
whale-meat-msg (7K) 6/26/05 Use of whale and porpoise meat in
period.
                                        Recipes. Substitutions.
whales-msg (7K) 1/10/02 Hunting and use of whales in period.

Nanna has also written at least one book in English on traditional
Icelandic foods. I think it is probably mentioned in the fd-Iceland-
msg file. The Icelanders started with their Scandinavian favorites,
but as they managed to over harvest the trees that once covered
Iceland, various foods were no longer available and they adapted.

Unfortunately, we seem to be doing a pretty good job repeating what
the Icelanders did, but on a global scale.
Soy burgers, anyone? :-(
