If I'm cooking and people have a genuine allergy or sensitivity to
something, they should contact me in advance so that I can either (a)
make sure they don't accidentally consume the item in question and/or
(b) make an alternate dish. I take all assertions of allergies
seriously and sometimes quiz people a little about how severe their
allergy/sensitivity is as a way of making sure the get the most out of
the meal. I do not avoid preparing any dish because some people can't
or won't eat it-- I make sure everyone can have a good and substantial
meal, so I don't see why anyone else should be deprived.
