The Ni'Matnama is great. Have you tried any of the recipes yet? I've had rave
reviews for the mango syrup, in sherbet and lassi.
Right now, I've picked up an old TimeLife book on cuisine in the
Austro-Hungarian Empire. Pretty, lavishly illustrated, but not much for
historical accuracy, I'm afraid. But at EUR 4,-, I'm not quibbling. I'm also
doing reading on Mohammed Arkoun, because I'm supposed to translate a book
about him next year. Interesting, though not exactly culinary.
My wish list includes the 'Lexikon des Mittelalters' - a genuine dream book, 9
volumes chock-full of text, all written by experts in their fields, covering
every imaginable aspect of medieval European civilisation. And it's out in
paperback at a (comparatively) low price. But it's in German, of course. I
also want a new medium-sized Dutch Oven (I gave mine away to a friend who
split up and has next to no household gear of her own now). And I want some
good linen paper for bookbinding.
Ya hear, Santa?
Giano
