There are a number of good books (giving source material) on Roman
and greek recipes. What springs to mind immediately (currently in print) are:
Mark Grant - Roman Cookery; Taste of Ancient Rome - Giancoma (sp??); Roman
Dining - essays; Cookery in Roman Britain - Eng Heritage. Coming in 2006 - a new
book on Roman/Greek cookery by Cathie Kaufman, and a new translation of Apicius
by Sally Grainger. Out of print but very good - book from Hartley & Marks; the
Flowers translation of Apicius.
This is just off the top of my head, hence no ISBNs. The same lady who
did 'Philosopher's Kitchen' did that really iffy book on Shakespear's Kitchen
last year... with blood oranges and other truly unlikely ingredients.
