It looks like this is a typo in the original (Rumpoldt?). 'stauben' means 'to 
make dust', from 'Staub' - 'dust', but 'Strauben' is the word for a 
deep-fried pastry. 

I wsonder, is this supposed to be more like an apple pancake or discrete 
battered apple slices?
