I don't know if grappa is period; my Sicilian grandfather distilled his own from the wine he made. It essentially was Italian white lightning. After my grandmother died, we teenagers raided her pantry during the wake and found the cherries she had preserved in the last of Grandpa's grappa. Cherry bombs, indeed. Gianotta
