Just as a matter of interest are you aware of Dorothy Hartley's "Water in 
England" book, it is a very long time since I read it and it is not up to 
date now but still an interesting resource.

As a matter of interest I did write a long post about parasites and the 
archaelogy of cess its etc, but I'm not sure it ever got to the list
